Biography

W. Dale Summerford is a lifelong resident of Gadsden County. He was originally elected Tax Collector in 1988 and is currently serving his 6th term in office. Prior to serving as Tax Collector, he was employed with First Florida Bank in Quincy.

Mr. Summerford received his Certified Florida Collector designation from the Florida Department of Revenue in 1991. He has been actively involved in the Florida Tax Collectors Association. During these times of constant change, this has allowed him to stay abreast of the latest technology and changes in Florida Law, in an effort to continuously improve the day to day operations of the tax collector's office.

Mr. Summerford chairs the Association's Department of Revenue Committee, serving as its' lead on property tax matters. He has also chaired the Association's Department of Highway Safety and Motor Vehicle Committee, and has served on the Board of Directors. In 2001-2002 he served as President of the Association. In September 2011, he was awarded the Matt Bell Award for his outstanding leadership and service in the revision of Florida Statute 197, dealing with property tax collection.

Mr. Summerford is married to the former Carolyn Bert of Havana. They have two daughters, Meg and Beth. He is a graduate of Tallahassee Community College and attended Florida State University. Mr. Summerford is a member of the First Presbyterian Church in Quincy, where he serves as an Elder.
